Deploy a mental health screening tool tomorrow.
No IT review. No Business Associate Agreement. No procurement process. No student or patient data at risk.
Zero institutional liability
No personal information is collected or stored — ever. Nothing to breach, nothing to audit, nothing for your legal team to review.
Clinically recognized instruments
Uses PHQ-9, GAD-7, PHQ-A, and GDS-15 — the same screening tools already trusted in clinical practice.
No friction for students or patients
No login, no signup, no app download. A QR code is all you need. Users complete the check-in and see results instantly.
What is MentalMapping?
MentalMapping is a free, anonymous mental health check-in tool that screens for signs of depression and anxiety using clinically validated instruments. It automatically selects the appropriate screening tool based on the user's age — PHQ-A and GAD-7 for teens (13–17), PHQ-9 and GAD-7 for adults (18–64), and GDS-15 and GAD-7 for older adults (65+). Results appear on the user's screen immediately. Nothing is transmitted, stored, or linked to any individual.
Why HIPAA does not apply — and why that matters for you
HIPAA governs Protected Health Information: identifiable data tied to a specific person's health. MentalMapping collects none. There are no accounts, no logins, no IP logging, and no session identifiers. Your institution's name is never attached to any response. Because there is no personal data of any kind, there is nothing for HIPAA to govern — and nothing for your legal or IT teams to review before sharing this tool with your community.
For colleges: you can share MentalMapping with students without FERPA review, because no student data is collected. For clinics: there is no BAA to sign, no EHR integration, and no IT ticket to file. A QR code on an intake clipboard is all you need.
How it works
| Share the link or QR code | Post it in a waiting room, embed it in an email, or put it on an intake clipboard. No IT setup required. |
|---|---|
| Student or patient completes check-in | Takes 5 minutes. Anonymous. No login. Age-appropriate validated screening for depression and anxiety. |
| Results appear instantly on their screen | They see their score and what it means. They can bring it into the appointment or conversation. |
| Nothing is stored on your end | No student or patient data passes through your institution. No FERPA review. No BAA. No liability. |
Designed for your setting
Universities & colleges
Share via QR code in residence halls, wellness centers, or orientation materials. Students engage anonymously before reaching a crisis point — reducing demand on CAPS.
Primary care & family medicine
Place a QR code on intake clipboards or in your waiting room. Patients complete a validated PHQ-9 and GAD-7 before they see you — giving you a conversation starter at no cost.
